Deer Industry New Zealand Announced

28-May-2002

The Game Industry Board announced at the deer industry conference last week that it plans to rename itself “Deer Industry New Zealand” from 1 October this year.

The announcement follows the ratification of the proposal for industry restructuring by the Deer Farmers’ Association (DFA) at its Annual General Meeting during the conference.

The name change and restructuring signifies a rationalisation of deer industry structures with the downsizing of the DFA’s national Council and the recruitment of a Producer Executive by the Game Industry Board to manage producer affairs. The recruitment process for this new position is underway.

“This is a structural reflection of the strong industry unity that the deer industry has been working to achieve in recent years” said Mr Jermy. “The GIB has always had an industry-wide approach rather than any sectoral bias and the new structure will further assist the integration of our programmes across all sectors, will achieve efficiencies and provide a strong and unified industry voice”.

As part of the proposal, two additional Board Members will be appointed to the Game Industry Board as a temporary measure to assist with a smooth transition to the new structure. The Deer Industry Association, representing the processing and exporting sector, has announced the nomination of Stewart Barnett, CEO of PPCS Ltd to fill one of these additional seats. The DFA Selection and Appointment Panel nominated DFA President John Scurr for the other seat.

Clive Jermy, Game Industry Board Chairman, whose seat came up for re-election, was re-appointed by the DFA Selection and Appointment Panel for a further three-year term.
