Deer Farmers Endorse Industry Board

6/22/1999

Deer farmers voted resoundingly to keep their industry board in poll results announced this week.

In a very strong mandate, 93% of voters endorsed the need for a collective industry organisation "to assist in the orderly and viable development of the industry".

New Zealand Game Industry Board Chairman, Mr Clive Jermy, said in announcing the results to the industry conference in Napier that "this is a clear and unequivocal mandate. With 80% support for a compulsory levy, the deer farmers have made their views very clear.

"The industry’s process of reform has incorporated almost all of the Government’s reform agenda. A number of major changes have been made to the industry structure, funding, approach and accountability. We have a very strong package to present to the Government in early July and believe it should be accepted so that this innovative export industry can get on with its business." Mr Jermy concluded.
