Deer Industry New Zealand Confirms Retirement

Chairman of Deer Industry New Zealand, Clive Jermy, has confirmed that he will retire from the Deer Industry New Zealand Board at the conclusion of his current term which is at end of June 2005.

Nominations to fill this year’s single Producer Vacancy have just been called for in the deer industry’s publication. Nominations close on 1 April 2005.

Mr Jermy had earlier advised the Board and the nominating body, the New Zealand Deer Farmers’ Association of his planned retirement following 12 years on the Deer Industry New Zealand board, including 6 years as Chairman.

Jermy remains extremely confident that the industry’s direction of expanding the consumption of venison, using retail as the vehicle to reach a significantly larger audience under the new 5 year, 7 territory strategic plan is the way forward and will pay dividends. Likewise, the exciting new opportunities agreed under the plan for velvet position New Zealand deer velvet for a sustainable and profitable future.

Jermy says that the unprecedented demand creation activity and investment in the market by producers, exporters and importers is a clear demonstration of partnership which lays the foundation for a sustained recovery which will be accentuated with the easing of supply.

“Continued commitment and discipline are the keys” Jermy says.

He applauds the resilience and commitment of deer farmers who well deserve a return to match their commitment.

The Chairman also commends the Deer Industry New Zealand board and executive for their significant commitment and leadership across a wide array of activity during turbulent times.
